The first 3 days of this 5-day training seminar are designed to teach the basic concepts Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG), as well as introduce the participant to advanced topics in QEEG. Participants will learn electrode placement, recording techniques, visual inspection of the EEG, and how to recognize artifacts by the collection of 19 channels EEG on a variety of hardware/software options. The course will additionally cover EEG editing, QEEG analysis, and the use of statistics and databases for interpretation. Participants will be given an understanding of basic concepts such as amplitude, power, coherence and advanced concepts such as Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA) for interpreting the QEEG. Research and clinically relevant interpretive techniques will be included. There will be ample time devoted to hands on training on the NeXus-32 and Discovery 24.
The last 2 days of the course are designed to teach the advanced and intermediate concepts and introduce the participant to Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG) analysis approaches, including ICA (independent component analysis) de-artifacting of the EEG, bi-spectral analysis, and phenotypes as an approach to EEG categorization. The technical aspect of QEEG will be covered, as well as presenting the participants with advanced concepts in visual inspection of the EEG and how to recognize artifacts and clinical EEG patterns. Additionally the uses of statistics and databases for interpretation will be covered.
Participants will be given an opportunity to clarify basic concepts such as amplitude, power, coherence and advanced concepts such as Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA) and Z-score based approaches for interpreting the QEEG. Research and clinically relevant interpretive techniques will be included, as well as a survey of the common software and database options in the field.
